Reading the history of Altered Barbie is just as interesting as perusing through the dolls themselves (some of which are for sale). Apparently, in the early days, Mattel was not so happy with their golden girl being shown in not-so-kid-friendly outfits and compromising positions. It took some time and some lawyering to be able to use the dolls in art. But once it was all said and done, the world was given the gift of Altered Barbie, and I believe we are a better world because of it.
